Join In the Aug. 29 Dedication of the Sherman Brown Jr. Memorial Highway

A law proposed by State Rep. Kip Kendrick renames a section of Columbia’s Providence Road between I-70 and the Business Loop as the “Sherman Brown Jr. Memorial Highway”.

The dedication will be held in the parking lot of Joe Machens Nissan, 201 Nebraska Ave., on Tuesday, August 29 at 6:30pm.

Sherman Brown Jr. was best known as the owner of Lindsey Rentals located on Sexton Road in Columbia and is poignantly remembered for his outreach, leadership, and mentorship to at-risk youth in the community.

“Words alone cannot describe the tremendous impact Mr. Brown had on members of our community, especially our youth,” said Kendrick. “Sherman was not only a businessman; he was a fixture in our community. He provided guidance and insight to many, all with a dose of humor. Most importantly, he was a friend to all who knew him. I am extremely grateful that we are honoring Sherman’s life and his many contributions in a significant way and in a location that meant so much to him.”

The section of Providence Road that will bear his name commemorates the location where Sherman and his eight siblings grew up.

Rep. Kendrick, Vicki Brown, and friend Bill Clark will speak at the dedication unveiling the commemorative sign.

Parking will be available at the Nissan dealership, as well as on Nebraska Avenue.
