Kendrick Asked to Join House Intern Policy Working Group

Newly elected Speaker of the House Todd Richardson has asked Rep. Kip Kendrick to participate, as one of two Democratic and four Republican legislators, in the House Working Group tasked with conducting a review of current policies regarding the involvement of student interns in the House of Representatives.

The working group was formed after former House Speaker John Diehl was forced to resign on the last day of session over explicit text messages he exchanged with a teenage college intern.

The panel will collect information from other states, study participating university policies, and recommend changes to the chamber’s current student internship program.

While the timetable for the working group is open-ended, it is anticipated that final recommendations will be made prior to the opening of the next session in January.
