Sherman Brown Jr. Memorial Highway

During the 2017 Regular Legislative Session I filed HB 964 to rename a section of Providence Road between I-70 and the Business Loop for Sherman Brown Jr. to honor the location where Mr. Brown and his siblings grew up. Mr. Brown was a tremendous individual, a successful business owner, a mentor to many, and a fixture in our community.

Sherman’s brother Danny, who passed away early this year, was behind the push to rename this section of Providence. I was honored to carry this legislation and make it a reality for both Sherman and Danny. The legislation was amended to two separate bills, which were both recently signed into law by the Governor.

The Sherman Brown Jr. Memorial Highway will officially be dedicated later this summer. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to honor Sherman, his brother Danny, and all of the Brown family. Please watch for additional details on the dedication ceremony in the coming weeks. And, please take the time to read more about Sherman’s life and his impact on Columbia.
